Unattended testing

I want to run a couple of waveforms through a circuit and find out when an event triggers. It may take a very long time to trigger the event. Hours, days... I expect it to trigger more than once. I do, of course, need to know what the particular circumstances are that trigger the event. So, as straightforward as this seems, I can't seem to assemble the project. Do I need just software to work with my DS1054Z? A USB scope? Perhaps some PC controlled waveform generator, too? Help, if you can. Thanks.

Hi,

I'd say you need a PC controlled generator, your scope and a PC. You also need to send commands to the instruments, typically with VISA.

Dive into your scope manual.
I have an older DS1052 and it can be setup for windowed triggering and record multiple events and show the trigger events in a "movie" like fashion, and you can also single frame scroll through them afterwards.

If you want to keep track at multiple signals at the same time you may consider to buy some extra scopes.
Oscilloscopes are becoming so cheap they are almost disposable.
