use a npn for q1

Hi what do i need to alter on this schematic to use a npn for q1,thanks.

Connect pin 11 to pin 12 and use the NPN emitter at pin 10 to drive the base of Q2 directly.  If the current or power requirement is too high, then convert Q2 to a Darlington configuration with a BD711, or the NPN power transistor of your choice.

To replace Q1 with an npn transistor connect the 723 pin 11 and 12 together with the NPN Q1 collector, the base to pin 10 and the emitter to the pass transistor base.

This configuration will have a higher dropout voltage.

The 723 can drive 150mA without Q1.
If this is adequate, do as David says.
