Hey all, I've seen quite a few mentions of using DeoxIT on switch contacts and the like but never oscilloscope BNC connectors. Is DeoxIT safe for oscilloscope BNC connectors as far as not interfering with the input signal? I'd imagine, if anything, it could somehow change the impedance of the connector.
You don't read about it because it is rarely necessary to use contact cleaner on BNCs. When you mate the connector, it has a strong wiping action.
But, if you did need to clean one, DeoxIt would be fine.
Impedance is determined by connector geometry, not an insignificant residue of contact cleaner.
(BTW, if you see a tarnished BNC, you can leave it alone... silver tarnish is conductive enough not to be a problem. However, you won't see silver plated BNCs on test equipment.)
