Title: Wave impedance for SATA traces?
Post by: fxr on December 24, 2019, 01:46:37 am
Hello all,

I'm trying to build PCB design with SATA interface.
Board specification:
- PCB material is R1755V High Tg 170.
- Stackup of PCB is 4 layers;
- SATA traces location on layer 1 (top layer);
- Ground plane on layer 2.
How to do calculate the wave impedance  of traces for SATA interface?
What I should consider when routing the differential traces?

grab the free tool "Saturn PCB toolkit" Its a set of PCB calculators including trace impedance for multi layer boards

Differential traces, keep them close to one another, the tool will tell you your ground separation, match there length to keep in spec
