What Can I Do With A 575v 3 Phase Motor?
« on: May 15, 2022, 10:47:49 pm »
I just got an industrial air compressor pump and the motor that goes with it.

Here are the motor specs:

HP: 1
RPM: 1745
Volts: 575
Amps: 1.1
EEF 82.8 ~ (???)
Model: HKH2

Similar to this one here: https://www.nriparts.com/products/alstom-hkh2-electric-motors-obsolete/150307

-Should I keep the motor as is and wait til I have a rotary converter? (realistically years away)

-Should I try to rewire it for 240v / single phase?

-Is there any way to convert the motor to run off DCV?

-Does this motor have permanent magnets or is it electromagnet driven, and how do I tell?

1: up to you.
2: won't work.
3: no. Unless you want to make a big electronic project.
4: it's an induction motor, no permanent magnets.

Keep it as a conversation piece or a boat anchor for a kayak.

1 HP induction motors are cheap.  If you don't already have the stuff laying around, it will cost more to make it useful at a different voltage than just buying a motor to suit the purpose.

I have a number of 3P 480vac motors running equipment in my shop but they are all on VFDs sourced with a single phase 120vac-480vac 4KVA transformer.
There's no point getting old if you don't have stories.

You can try to eat it.
I once read a story about a Japanese guy who ate a whole car, so such a small motor can't be much of a problem.
