Of course, you are all knowing...typical apple hate troll.
Repaired a few dozens of i phone/pads. They didn't make me love them for sure. Unfortunately I have an ipad 2 myself  :palm:. Was given at my job a while ago when they were still fancy, of course jailbroken. What do not make me like i devices except hardware?  I don't really understand who actually owns purchased device - apple or actual user. Likely apple owns users  :). Not big Android fan too. And not a fan of modern disposable techology, you are like a hobo if your phone is more than a one year old  :) (or what they want you to think).

re: I don't really understand who actually owns purchased device

Until someone with better stats come along, this is what I recall for the USA numbers...

From what I read about 2 years ago, largest segment of iPhone & iPad users were 4-11 year old kids.  I saw that in action when I was in one of my daughter's school events.  Every parent with younger ones there had the kids poking away at the iPad or something-Pad as pacifier.

Most recent stats (last two months) I read is Hispanic Americans are adopting smartphone fastest.  They are about 60% adoption rate vs 58% of non-Hispanics.  Since they are only about 20% of the population, that doesn't make them the largest segment but the highest growth segment.

I am sure data-companies like AC Nielsen or analysis firms like Gartners has much more details if you are a subscriber.

The only way I would believe that is if it at iOS devices.  That includes the iPod touch (WiFi only iPhone).  This is used by tons of folks in that age range, because it requires only purchase and no cell plan.  They get texting and voice chat and all from WiFi so it is almost like having a smart phone.

What happens to the battery, does it bend as well? This can be dangerous.

show it to a mechanical engineer and they will be like  :palm: wtf do you expect........ thin and wide pressed aluminium case with holes punched in what would be the strengthening section. Why do consumers demand the impossible and why are they surprised that a manufacturer is making fragile equipement that they want you to replace in the next 6 months to 1 year. My phone is 3 years old, could do with a new one as it's gotten slow but temporarily mitigated by disabling facebook !

true i agree. but it somehow did translate into product lifespan. i have had used both iphone and android. i use them very ... errm lovingly if thats the term. i have friends who are absolute apple fans and some who are large screen android fans. in a single lifetime of my 1 phone (either apple/android), my friends would have gone through about 3 (all apples sadly and in a span of 1 year) ... we would go to the next beer session, he would have a new phone, and after that, the next session, that phone will be in bandages, and the next few months, he will be planning to get a new apple (the next new design) ... so no hammers, no drop tests, etc. but dont ask me how he or they did it, .... it all broke. the only person i knew who had a android broken up as bad as all the apples i have seen in my real life friends is only 1, and he replaced his cracked screen for under USD100 (he said he know some samsung guy locally so he got it for cheap, i think local repairs run in the region of USD 150++).

not that i hate apple, i use them, but i think apple design is not much of a champion in product useable lifespan now a days. TBH, like what 1 of the youtube video says ... its all about the profit margin :/

i was curious about the battery too, i mean everyday it gets some kind of external pressure flexing around. if there is just a slight chance that an internal short takes place just because of that flexing pressure and this happens? (forward to 3:45), some kind of thermal release happens due to the short, blows out the chemicals inside etc ...

and this guy used some serious test gear

so iphone 5 ... over 1mm of flex, iphone 6 ... over 3mm
but what interests me was galaxy over 4mm, but it flexed back lol. plastic win lol?
I see a serious flaw in this test. Load is applied only in one direction and, likely, this is how it was tested at apple. If, for example, right side is very weak, but left side is not, this test won't reveal anything bad. It just shows best case scenario, if any part along the phone can survive such force, that means all phone will survive, as all force is applied to the strongest part.

I share your doubt to some extended.  As I said in my post, while I do recall reading it, but I don't remember the source or other details.  I was hoping someone with access to data from various market companies would pipe in.  Who would they survey for the 4-11 year old's?  Moms?

This I did find, from a marketing firm.  Note that this table is a prediction of growth and not actual market data.  I don't know them so I am not sure about their reliability and how did they do their analysis. 0-11 year old is the fastest growth segment from their prediction.

EDIT - adding below:

While I still remember the source, let me add cite this source for the Hispanic being the fastest smart phone growth segment part...

Funny thing here is Samsung is giving a warranty for the first year of they will replace or repair the phone at no cost, irrespective of the reason. Water damage, broken screen or whatever. You get ONE free repair/replacement. Only on the top of the range, but as these are the largest they are confident they will not lose money on this.

But me I have dropped phones before, and as I normally now use a screen guard, and a case they do not get damaged. Scratched, scuffed and with the case sides worn and lettering missing yes, but broken only after a few years. I have had to go through a few batteries with each phone, as they all die after time. I think I bought the last Nokia 8110 battery in the country when I got it, and the phone was not broken but was still not mine a year later.

Of course, all apple care about is looks and style and pushing their new model out in 6 months. It's the ultimate in a throwaway society and that's enough for me to start hating apple ! At least if they made the damn things to be last long enough to be sold on and resused but no they must all break so that all new ones are bought. My phone was bought second hand 3 years ago, still going and in reasonable condition and I'm not that careful with it.

call me weird but I really would love to get the new blackberry passport, but my old blackberry  (3 or 4 years old) is still running just fine so I can't justify the $600 or north of that price tag.

My Xperia Arc is over three years old and it's holding fine ( except for the LiPo battery  :bullshit:  :-BROKE ). Runs decent games, takes decent pictures and the screen is really nice ( resolution and colors ). I remember it fall out of my hand onto concrete, flat on the screen, didn't even bouce, had no scratches or cracks what so ever  :phew: ( the glass is recessed like 0.3mm below the edges  8) ).

Here's the original iPhone 6 video.

42 million views?  $600 for a phone and then the youtube paycheck a month later.  I'm jealous.  Wow - I'm in the wrong biz.

Yawn
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2014/09/consumer-reports-tests-iphone-6-bendgate/index.htm?userWantsFull=true
iPhone 6 - 70lb / 100lb
iPhone 6 Plus - 90lb / 110lb
iPhone 5 - 130lb / 150lb

That iPhone 5 in the picture looks like it didn't bend at all, and that's with 150lb applied to it, while the iPhone 6 Plus is completely trashed at just 110lb. It's definitely weaker.

Yep, ignorance and stupidity.  Apple is on a yearly cycle with nearly everything and a major release of the phones every 2 years.  Next year will likely be a 6S with processor upgrade or similar.

By the way, Samsung is on a yearly release of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series both of which are usually full redesigns of the phone rather than spec upgrades.

I had an iPhone 4 for 2 years, only reason it died was because I got water in it.  Not many smartphones at that time would survive water and we are just now seeing water resistance and IP ratings come to phones.  Went to Android because Apple did not have any LTE phones at the time and ended up with a GS3, not a terrible phone but battery life is terrible and the OS sucks and Cyanogenmod is not much better.

I hope you change rather than continue to be an uneducated Apple troll Simon, can't change the fact that people buy $1000 devices and then sit on them.

The ingnorance and stupidity was aimed at people who actually waste their time watching these videos made by not very well informed people. just because it hit's over a million views generally means people are bored not that it's worth watching.

If your saying that apple are the same as every other phone maker then i hate them all, we don't need this throw away designed culture.
