What IC is this: S8920
« on: May 11, 2019, 03:45:10 pm »
Hi, does anyone know what IC is this S8920  73920M (see attached picture)?
All I know is that it must be an dc-dc converter with multiple outputs (3.3 + 5 + another one) but I cannot find its datasheet.
Many thanks.

What searching methods have you already used... Be specific as to what name and where you looked...
What is the device's Make/Model number/Use?
We need more information.

I can generally find things by...
- Searching the major parts houses for the part number
- Googling the component data sheet directly
- Googling the schematic for the unit. This can help with proprietary parts... You can see their purpose and, sometimes, come up with a substitute.

Hi. I googled it by both codes written on the package, it is on a Qnap TS328 motherboard, looks like a power supply IC but I cannot find its datasheet. I appreciate any help.

You Googled it by the codes, but did you try the other methods suggested? If not, the community does expect you to do your own "homework." I am not scolding you; I'm just letting you know what is expected.

More information = what you are trying to do and why... Please...

Additional search techniques...
- Search for the Qnap "Service Manaul." If you are lucky enough to find that, it will have the schematics.
- Search YouTube for Qnap TS-328 repair videos... I saw at least one, but it was not in English... Maybe you speak its language, too?

Let us know what you discover and we will continue to try to help...

T1D, I appreciate your help man, you are the only one that replied, but do you think I didn't try everything? I'm not saying the information it's not out there, but I hoped someone more experienced would help me to locate it faster. TS328 is a relatively new model, no way to find its schematic or service manual. And the chip most likely it's a Silergy DC converter but I can't find its exact model, could be a marking code on the chip.

Thanks nrxnrx

I've been searching for this for ages! Could you give me a hint how did you find this sukker!

Google: nothing
digikey: nothing
Mouser: nothing
rs-Online: nothing

@ulltrium  I've got a TS431 here that wont turn on and i belive it is this IC that is faulty.
Did you manage to fix your NAS?

I can hear a very light beeping Sound modulating when i connect it to Power.
The SR Pin of the S8920  is modulating between 0-5V and it seems to correlate with the Sound.
But i'm not shure if it is cause or symtom?

What did you do?

thanks Glenn

Yes, I fixed it. In my case that IC was the problem, but I did not replace it, I just shorted the Vin with Vout ant that's it. Initially I thought it is a power supply but it's not, it's a load switch, you can short it.

Thankyou very much for your answer!

May i ask why you thought it is this IC was faulty?

I can seen SR oszilate between 0 and 5V with my Multimeter wich seem to correspond with a high pitched beep i can here.

Why did you think it was that IC was faulty?

Thanks!

S8920 is a load switch, it's easy to test it, basically when EN is high then Vin goes to Vout and PG goes up. You can remove it and short Vin to Vout so that the input voltage powers the rest of the board, and if this works you can order a new IC (or not, I didn't, works fine without it)
