What is it?
« on: May 31, 2010, 02:30:11 pm »
OK guys.. As the title says.. What is it please? And if you know could you link me to a datasheet? It's prolly something simple like a resistor or cap but I can't find any data sheet for it. I've looked on alldatasheets etc trying various different nubers but not found anything.

Thanks fellas

Thats an capacitor  33nF exclusively for AC usage..

Commonly used as sparks absorber on switches , or as "AC filter" at the input of transformers.

Great ;) Thanks mate.

It's not much use to me then if it's AC. A few of them came in a crappy box of bits I got a while back from Maplins and I wasn't sure what it was.

Anyway started getting all my components from ebay now and am finding some real good bargains and good ebayers too :) Especially this guy.. He's got everything and the stuff comes free first class & immactulately packed too.

Its not smart to stock parts because they look cheap.

Many years back , I was repairing sound mixers  " Phonic ",  and I have lots of preamp ICs , that I have no use for them.
Same story, with single block amplifiers for car stereos ...
And the list grows and grows ...

Just buy for your today needs ..  thats my advice ..

I believe that N33 would mean the value is 0.33nf, or 330pf. It should say 33N for 33nf.
I got burned by that small discrepancy recently building an oscillator.  ;)

In case you want to know more, I think I found the datasheet for that part. It's an older datasheet, but the marking next to the WKO matches better than the newest revision. Here's the most recent one from Vishay.

It's 330pF, n33 = 0.33nF not 33n. The tolerance (M) is +/- 20%
Data sheet is here http://www.vishay.com/docs/22204/wko.pdf
For the meaning of class X and Y see http://www.componentsbureau.com/site/media/files/iskra/definition_of_radio_interference_and_interference_suppression.pdf

These can be used as normal capacitors on DC, the significance of the Class X & Y is that they are rated for safe to use across the mains (X) or between live and earth (Y).

Jim

ps I've just seen DJPhil has posted the correct value while I was typing.

Yep.. I don't really stock up with anything normally, but having just been re-bitten by the electronics bug I have gone out and bought a few things just to get me started again with a few little projects, e.g resistors, timers, caps, leds, op-amps etc. Oh and of course an Arduino which I'm finding brilliant already :)

DJ & jimmc

Thanks very much fellas for the helpful info, much appreciated.

I stock up on lots of jellybeans and any parts that i know are hard to come by, or when they're on special.

well 78L05 parts will always come handy, as will resistors and even 12F615 pics as a good general purpose pic

This is what I have in my little collection up to now in the way of timers/transistors/Vregs etc (I know it's not much by some of you guys standards :( ) But I'm still happily discovering some great new things by the datasheets on these things. :) When I was into electronics many years ago I didn't have the internet like we do today so finding anything out meant a long trip to the library, and even then.. If I'd chosen a book that didn't quite cover everything, I'd have to go back again and again. At this point the library would have run out of books as my local library is only small :(

Anyway.. Hopefully reading the datasheets will help reduce any waste due to excessive heat :D

For the ones that does just repairs , the  library are even smaller , three VRT  EGA comparison tables,
and one for the Motorola parts ..
