What is this SMD component soldered in my microphone?

(1/1)

zirconx:
I salvaged a mic element from a USB headset. I might use it in a simple amplifier-speaker circuit, or to visualize sound on my oscilloscope (when it arrives, it's in the mail). I'm aware this kind of mic needs a +5v signal to operate, and that I'll need to filter that back out with a capacitor.

I see what looks like a surface mount device soldered onto the bottom of the mic. What do you think this is?

I did some googling and found this image from this site:

So maybe it's that resistor? I don't see this on all microphones though (looking at photos on the internet).

Thanks.

Brumby:
A photo of the actual component might be better for identification.

We understand that it will be small and possibly difficult to photograph well, but that doesn't mean it won't be helpful.

zirconx:
Doh! I had carefully taken a photo but then completely forgot to attach it. Here it is.  Looks like a diode, right?

zirconx:
So what would that be for, why would there be a diode here?

Jwillis:
Looks like a diode  and a cap (look between the solder joints)in parallel. To dampen switching spikes?
