What Kind of Silicone Coating is This?
« on: October 08, 2018, 09:39:13 pm »
Hi, brand new to this forum. I'll just state up front that I have limited knowledge on electronics but am willing to learn so I can repair my own stuff.

I have a Dewalt DCS355 oscillating tool (power tool that cuts various materials through vibration) that I have made a repair. I had to take the circuit board out to make the repair and to do that I had to remove a lot of this "potting" type silicone that covered the board. I've looked around a good bit but most of the potting compounds I've seen online aren't silicone. The ones I have seen are usually a two part mixture and I'm not sure if that's what I need or not. Can y'all point me in the right direction of what I need. Attached are some photos.

Thanks

It's a waterproof coating, as long as you use a waterproof dielectric coating your good man.

I have some MG Chemicals silicone conformal coating I just bought. The board was pretty much water proof, not sure why though. The tool makes a lot of vibration so I assumed it needed a lot of this coating to dampen it. I'm not just looking to spend money, so if you don't think I need it I'm ok with just using the conformal coating. I just want to repair it right.
