Title: What to do with fifty 15kR - 50W power resistors?
Post by: japasetelagoas on September 25, 2017, 04:48:09 pm
Hey everyone,
I've seen a carbox with maybe 50 Dale power resistor in the junkyard, is there anything useful that could be done with these resistors?

Maybe a dummy load or something else?

15kR - 50W - 1%

Thanks

I guess that to reach the power rating a high voltage would be needed. Of course, then a heatsink is needed also. I'm not sure how many W you could dissipate without adding anything.

Here's the datasheet: https://www.vishay.com/docs/50013/rh.pdf (https://www.vishay.com/docs/50013/rh.pdf)

The unmounted power rating is 12W @ 25C.

A 300R 2500W resistor?

Dunno what you mean by "15kR". Those are 1 ohm resistors and can come in extremely useful as dummy loads. Especially as they are 1% tolerance. Go for it.

15kR -> 15K Ohm

The image must be a generic one.

Exactly.

i have a crap load of precision resistors and caps. maybe we can do some trading if it helps your parts inventory, if your reasonable distance from me and it makes economic sense.

Better grab all you can, those are not cheap. Someday you will find a use for some of them. Give some away on the forum, or sell them.

Make a 50 ohm HF dummy load if you got more than 50 resistors. :D

3.5W dissipation at 230V means they'd be useful as an anti-condensation heater for small mains powered enclosures.

heaters for a 3d printer heated bed?
Fishing weights?
slingshot ammo?
throw them under your tire for extra traction when stuck in the winter time.
non environmentally friendly replacement for water skipping stones.
