What's this transformer in my schematic?
« on: August 07, 2017, 10:43:32 pm »
Hi all,

I came across this symbol in a schematic. I'm trying to source a compatible part. Symbol would have me think its a standard iron-core transformer, but it's labled FER which makes me think ferrite. Also the '190' number is a bit confusing as I have no idea what it's referring to. Any ideas?

Thanks!

-Seth

Probably a common mode filter choke.

Can you please post the complete schematic? Or have you signed some sort of contract, saying you can't publish it?

It's a "pig's nose" ferrite core.
I have to agree with Hero999, your way of posting is "gimme an answer, but I won't tell you what it's about".
Not really useful for anyone but yourself.

Good point, here it is. The reasons I didn't initially include it are firstly it's a huge schematic and I didn't want to force people to go through it. Also I've had a few experiences on this forums and similar where I share an overly-ambitious project and people tell me it's dumb and I shouldn't waste my time trying. Let me quickly justify by saying I'm in no rush, and am giving myself well over a year to do this. I know it's going to be very challenging, but that's the point.

Thanks for the help.

Well according to the Bill of Materials in the document, it's a Murata DLW5BSN191SQ2 100MHz common mode choke. Datasheet in this link...
