All the white on blue 1602 or 128x64 LCD displays I've purchased from Ebay have a draw/refresh rate about 3 times (or more) slower than the black on green LCDs with the same resolution and controller chip and similar price ($6-$20). Any kind of animation, or characters that change more than twice per second just appear as a blur in the transition from blue to white and back again.
Is this just my bad luck, or is there something inherently slow with the white on blue type of display?
Finding refresh specs for these 'no name' displays is near impossible because there are so many variations.

I Don't know if the refresh rate is different but 2/3 a second is high for an Lcd display. Perhaps the white blue are more temperature sensitive but really you can't expect high refresh on them. Just look at your digital watch, seconds are ok but in stopwatch mode they can't resolve the higher digits in real time normally.

White on blue is Negative STN (>90 degrees twist), black on green may be STN or regular TN (90 degrees twist). TN has faster response time than STN (but better contrast) because the crystals don't have to twist as much.
