I just put a random value. I honestly have no idea what the resistance of my load will be yet, but I’m sure it’ll be at least a kiloohm. And most of the time, it’ll only be swinging about 12 V at the most.

Your random circuit is completely different to a real circuit.
You cannot design a circuit without first having spec's for it.
