Why would I use a "Resistive Touchscreen Controller"

Why can't I just use the ADC in my MCU?

It provides some nice features like current limiting drivers, for the case where you touch both the top left and bottom right (for example) of the screen and the touchscreen effectively becomes a short circuit. Also, touchscreens are often used in systems with high end microprocessors that don't have any internal ADCs.

My limited experience on capasitive and resistive touchpads is that resistive ones are more accurate. but this just mo opinion, have not done any testing other then couple mobile phones...

As others have pointed out, dedicated interface chip on these usually provides some handy features that are good to have.

Want to be super cheap, nothing is preventing you to use MCU's AD converter, but then you can expect some troubles to show up. Things you might not know that touchpad can do or behave like that...
Electronics, Linux, Programming, Science... im interested all of it...
