Wiring a Solenoid Lock in RF system
« on: February 19, 2020, 11:28:30 pm »
Hi all,

I'm working on a remote system for triggering a solenoid lock using RF modules. Its a very simple circuit (trying to take it easy coming back into electronics, I was of the BEAM robot days).

I'm a bit muddled about the wiring of a solenoid into a cicuit. I've seen several sources with different advice on using power MOSFETS, Diodes (to protect against surge). But I can't seem to find a detailed explanation (with calculations) of how to rate and specify these components.

I've attached a schematic of the circuit and would greatly appreciate any comments on improving the circuit and Solenoid set-up, as a learn-from-example sort of thing. Any advice on other parts of the circuit would be greatly welcome too. I have prototyped the circuit and it all seems to work so far.

Thanks

Mark
