Problem with original PicKit3
« on: February 09, 2024, 05:29:21 pm »
MPLABX looks like a very poor IDE, its been long they redone it but still does not look like its stable.

I'm working on a project where I'm communicating between two PIC MCUs (both are 16LF18324) I often need to switch betwen master or slave projects both projects are open in same IDE and can be seen on project tree. Whenever I switch between uC it gets crazy, sometime it does not detect device connected, sometime it reads device successfully but could not program and mostly I have disconnect it from USB and connect it back again to make it work.  Even sometime i have to close IDE and then load the project again to make it work.

I'm looking for if someone know a solution.

You don't say if you are using Winx or Linux, I believe from my experiences there are some differences in USB pickup.
MPLABX is horrible in just about every way but we are forced to use it to support newer chips! MPLAB8 being a bit long in the tooth.
I find with X it is soooooo damm slow I don't try doing anything fancy so just one thing open at a time  |O
The two problems I have encountered with PK3 are :-
It has to be plugged in before you start X
If it reloads the PK3 firmware it will be incompatible with MPLAB8 firmware reloads! (Workaround is change FW if required under X then use it under 8  :palm:
If your not using C might I suggest sticking to MPLAB8, so much better and faster  :)
