YH-899D 2 IN 1 REWORK + SOLDERING STATION - Any comments ?
« on: September 22, 2012, 10:47:47 pm »
Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations regard the device above ? Is its soldering staion good enough for soldering tiny things (0402 resistors etc ...)? How is its soldering quality compared to the Hakko FX-888 ?

It depends on what you want, FX888 is soldering iron only, that 899D has an extra hot air gun, you can do 0402 more precisely than with a soldering iron.
The basic difference is that FX888 is 70W while 899D iron is 50W.
I would grab a FX888 and another hot air "only" station. I always used "all in one" stations but I think now the quality of "dedicated" stations is better. The disadvantage is the space it will take on your workbench.

Of course not. The 899D actually only costs 80$ in china! How do you compare a 80$ Yihua ALL-IN-ONE station and a 80$ Hakko station(If you are in the states)? Or the 898D ( which is similar i believe ) which only costs 40$ ...

I don't know the 889 version - I've got the 882 version, and it works like a charm. It's quite fast to get hot, compared to my Weller WHS40.
The only negative i have: The cables are short, and the stand for the iron is somewhat crappy.

It has a sensor on the iron too? Doesn't look like that from the pictures... just a standard Hakko-ish iron and a passive stand.

I haven't actually tested if there is a sensor in the iron triggered by the stand. Maybe i should confirm if there is or not.

The ones with that stand is not "passive", they have a magnet in it just like the rest for the air wand but i'm not sure if it will work or not

Think of the 899 as the smaller version of the 882
These two are the brother of both the 882 and the 899 (EPIC LCD VERSIONS!)

And the upgraded versions of the 882

Smallest version of 898A+ ever

Just tested it - There is a sleeptimer in the iron. The stand is passive.
It could be a "ball switch" (sorry, don't know the correct term), something is rattling in the handle.

I live in Brazil, so their costs are almost the same here (60% tax plus shipping + reseller "extortion"). I still think it's better an FX888 plus some other hot air station, separated stations one for each job.
