YIHUA 8858 Upgrade vs 858D for budget rework station ?
(1/1)
DarrenHerondale:
Hey guys,
I did not find any review on the YIHUA 8858 Upgrade heat gun. Does anyone have experience with it ?
Also, which one (the one above or 858D) would be better as a budget rework station ?

I'd tend to stick with a "name brand" 858D. The name brand ones are not the highest quality either but better than that selecting one totally unbranded. I've got a Yihua 858D, it's not perfect, the tips are hard to change otherwise it does the job. Replacement handles and heaters are fairly easy to obtain.

All in one unit's in my mind are asking for trouble, the backstory is a cheaply made device running at mains potential or a poorly made switch mode power supply that has had no independent testing and sold in a largely unregulated market. Well hopefully you get the idea.

The YIHUA 8858 in it's cradle will shoot hot air across the table so not a good idea. The fat part of the handle is right where you need to grip it, and trying to mount it for rework will also affect usability. I also doubt it's performance is superior to the 858D.
