Dave,
The space ads are taking up is slowly increasing from the side bar into the articles and the content seems to be going against your own guidelines as being relevant to your site content. It's starting to be "spot the stuff that Dave did".
I don't mind having ads and I understand why they're there, but acne treatments and mattresses?
- Rob.
-
Well, there are lots of newbies here, acne treatment might be relevant. Mattresses? mmmmm....
-
I think the adverts are selected by adchoices, not Dave.
They are targets at you based on the surfing history of your computer, yes get the foil hat out big brother IS watching ^-^
Have a look at http://www.youradchoices.com/ (http://www.youradchoices.com/)

I'm getting ads for inflatable farm animals. I wonder why.
-
Ed,
as scary as it is , it appears you actually have a life. my ads are aliexpress and teamviewer. I need to get out more
-
Ed, you bought an inflatable bed, and live in a rural area............

I bought one salacious item on ebay (for someone else) and my friends, family, facebook and the whole internet wont ever let me forget it.

Ghostery tells me there are nine potential tracking items on eevblog.com's main page. Among them Amazon and Google (three times). With Amazon and Google you can be sure you are tied in to some of the largest web tracking operations there are. So next time, buy your blue pills offline.
-
It is ads for wheelbarrows here. Seems that turning on private browsing for the :-X stuff works.
-
I get adds for dating agency's and I have never used one in my life and have a wife already. Ghostery tells me I have Google analytic s and something called open X on this site tracking me. One reason that you can get funny things in the adverts is if you block the trackers you just get random adds.
-
I used to get the dating sites, now I'm presented with microscopes and toilet roll dispensers - I shudder to think what the internet is trying to tell me ???
-
All I get is measurement stuff and PCB manufacturing. I guess I have no life :(

They are Google Adsense ads, and that's how the system works.
I do not get a say in what ads are displayed there, Google chooses what to display based on who you are and your browsing history.
If I search for baby stuff today, google knows that and I get baby ads on my own site.
Some are not targetted ads though, they are more traditional "spam" ads, but they are lot more expensive to the advertiser. And the advertiser usually choses specific sites they want ads to appear.
e.g. on youtube you might get a blasted with the latest movie trailer when a movie is coming out, regardless if google thinks you like movies or not.
Right now I get a Digilent FPGA ad, the Perth Mint, and Kogan. All three of which I have searched for recently on Google.
Our Google overload knows all >:D
Dave.

For serving up a Kogan ad to you, I'd say google's still got a lot to learn.
:)
-
Had to look up Kogan......... On Google of course. As to the mint, I can just go down the road to buy coins, the mint is not interested in local buyers, and offer up sets to the local market late or never.
-
Anyone that thinks there is privacy in the world is kidding them selves.
We used credit cards to make purchase for baby gear a few years ago. Mysteriously special offers for nappy services and god know what else started arriving in the mail box and even some targeted telemarketing ( very welcome while trying to get a bay to sleep).
Use any kind of plastic and especially flyby or loyalty cards and you are in a database. Web profiles are a trial part of it and hey, the adverts pay Dave bills ( I hope).
As long as the data matching doesn't get into the government control activity, who cares.
-
That is where I mess up Makro, i buy tea and coffee for the staff account on it, and the odd tools. Get the targeted ads in the post as well, but the worst is the telemarketers all trying to sell phone and insurance.........
-
That i need a list off the last add show (top banner here in the forum)
Many times i have wanted to find a old add (sometimes only one click away) But no matter that i do i cant find it again |O pressed F5 20 times or back space.
Please Santa ;)

Thank god I didn't complain about all the naked ladies in the ads then...
-
Ad companies are getting desperate, it is the time of year to SHOP TILL YOU DROP, then pay for it all on the Never Never..............
-
While on the subject,
I wanted to sponsor more than my monthly paypal thing if I can and went to your Amazon ad.
Unfortunately, I was going to order a Rigol spectrum analyzer, but Amazon does not list it. They do have the scopes.
So before I order from elswhere, any ideas?
-
This thread reminded me to disable AdBlock on eevblog pages (first of all for the curiosity to see what ads would I've been offered, "unfortunately" it's only plain electronics stuff :D )
-
Having made the remark that I get dating agency adds today they have mysteriously been changed to plant hire and ground works, does google keep tabs on what people are saying.
-
Got prices from a couple sites for some Fluke meters two months ago. Fluke ads have been following me around ever since. Clear your cookies and it might help some but if you have a static connection to the Internet some of them still remember where you've been.

Unless it's amazon, there is no way you can order one where I get a direct cut.
Dave.

Ads... They say too much about us.
-
A dating site..
....
Kitchen knive set.
....
hardware store, with shovels pictured on the front

Made my day.

I guess things could be worse than Fluke ads...

Hmmm, that got me curious: do you get something else from the click ads or just a flat pay? When I bought my DS1102E from Saelig I was sure to click on the ad from your webpage and mentioned your name/URL during purchase...
-
Duh. Forget about that. I just checked your last video.

Speaking of ads SLJ, here's a US ebay seller I've bought a couple of things from. With your interest in antique radio gear and publications, if you don't know this fellow maybe you should have a look. 79 yo retired collector, selling off his stuff. Seems a really nice guy.
