It costs nothing to get one and you don't have to use it, you don't even have to use your real name. I always sign out immediately after I finish doing whatever I'm doing that requires it.

Just don't forget to use privacy mode when you do it. Google will track your browser.

They'll do that anyway, Google has so many tentacles that resistance is futile. I just try to pollute my data profile with enough garbage to make it useless for marketing, and I block all ads anyway so it's kind of irrelevant.
