Can we have a STEM offtopic forum?
« on: December 01, 2021, 06:33:06 pm »
There are some great minds here. Not to boast too much but rarely will I find a place where I can talk to people more intelligent than I. So thats why I like to post about science stuff here, but it's not directly tied to electronics, so there is no place for it. If we had a STEM forum

We could post things about space, quantum physics, math, physics, chemistry,  3D printing, and so on.

Just an idea

I like this idea. However, I think here you'll still get answers regarding your mentioned topics. Even without any dedicated forum.

Hello there:
I see this is almost 4 months no posts, but things are turned upside down, for many in this world.

   Hey, uh, I'm not schmart, but knew some folks;
One person was such a genius, had various troubles like alcohol abuse, at age 14.  Sooo, the solution there, with parents support, they just 'promoted' him, to nearby University.  Today, he is a California Director, over some state agriculture divisions.

Myself, age 68, no real big accomplishments, unless you count a few CAT rescues...
I wouldn't mind hearing about other's exp that never was 'stellar'.  There are a lot of folks hiding out, through life, from the harshness and illogical world.

I've known quite a few Leaders, that's a social genius, plus one particular fellow, he liked to be a Biblical Scholar. Never met someone doing that, before.  Many folks would recognize the name...J*** H****, a book Author.
But not me, always the '2nd man', or '3rd'.
I've seen 'great' organizations, from within.
Here's a TRICK, I used, to get hired there:
If they got dogs, walking those little ones is work, real work, and distracting...
"...I'll call New York back, WHEN I'm finished, walking Fluffy...", they would say.  So, I started doing the daily dog-walking, and got hired on, formally.

Many of the higher accomplished folks, in Silicon Valley had excess responsibility, and attendant health problems.  I think Atari-Namco, an arcade game manufacturer was approx 35 miles from here, so I had
access, to virtually any company,...that would hire me that is...

But question was about STEM, (sorry).
I designed / built a hands-on Mechanical Computer system, for teaching. Pretty interesting tool for motivating students.

Well, the times I've tried clarifying and explaining physics stuff here have been quite, quite unpleasant... Maybe others feel the same? :-//

STEM implies a formal approach to learning - possibly not so directly related to the spirit of eevblog electronics, I guess  :-//

However aspects of formal basic study is a rich seam I imagine - I've just stumbled onto an education equipment supplier's site and may be tempted to melt my nails :palm:
