Well, shoot. I'm pretty sure I can't watch that without fainting and falling flat on the floor  :(

I think one of the reasons they use Opsite is to also reduce the risk of introduction of skin bacteria into the wound. The operative field then is mostly sterile Opsite with only a thin line of skin 'edge' at the incision site.
Amazing the degree of recovery in just a few days.  :-+
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

@Dave: I must have missed it but how come there is no blood? They must have tied your leg off or something??

Yes, he says in the narration that they seem to have applied a tourniquet.

Best viewed with a copy of Gray's Anatomy to one side, that way you can tell which bit the surgeon is working on.

Thanks for this one Dave, it looks like your recovery is nice and quick. This sort of stuff doesn't bother me in the slightest as I lived in a house share with a bunch of medical students whilst I was getting my degree, when they saw me reading one of their textbooks they gave up trying to shock me. What they didn't have of course was keyhole surgery and I find it amazing what they can do through a few small holes.

Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.

Putting stuff together....

Stitches...?  Superglue...?

I was waiting for solder paste (lead free, of course) and reflow.

Finally some teardown
I was a bit disappointed with the teardown phase - barely removed the cover!

Hope you make a speedy recovery Dave :)

First time we haven't seen dodgy capacitors in a teardown.

OK. That must be a hell of an tingling sensation when they undo that. I still recall a couple of decades ago I woke up with my arm being totally limb because I slept on it. Once the blood got flowing again it didn't feel pleasant. I might also fall victim to a surgeon in the near future so my interest isn't purely academic.

You're still sedated when the tourniquet is removed.

Dave - I wish you a speedy recovery.

ACL repairs have come a long way - they're bomb proof now.     I say that having assisted on several during med school and residency and more importantly from first hand experience - I had my first one in 1978 and it failed miserably. I went years of a very active life with an unstable ACL-deficient knee resulting in cartilage and other damage.  Fortunately second ACL repair  in 1995 (patellar tendon graft) has held up fine through 20+ years of climbing, skiing and hiking.

I was disappointed the video did not show footage of drilling the tunnel for the hamstring graft through the femur and tibia. (or maybe I missed it? - I only skimmed through the video.).- That's the fun stuff. There's a reason they call orthopedic surgery "carpentry". ;)

Great video - the lack of blood makes it pretty easy to watch.

Dave will be playing in the mud again in no time.

Thanks, it's looking good so far, it's "the vibe".

Yep, only got 2 seconds of footage from the arthroscope for some reason  :(

It's great how serviceable that is, even spare parts built in!  They sure don't make stuff like they used to.

I also get very uncomfortable around such content nowadays, even though I'd imagine it would be quite interesting. Yet back when I was a kid, those science shows (Nova, etc.) that featured surgery scenes didn't bother me.
