Title: Dave’s vBlog on lead acid battery efficiency
Post by: DougSpindler on December 04, 2018, 03:59:29 pm
I thought I watched a video where Dave gave a presentation on the efficiency of lead acid batteries.  (I might be mistaken.)  In the video Dave talked about the heat loss in charging leas acid batteries, up to 20% and the heat loss when discharging which iis also about 20%.  So between charging and discharging lead acid batteries up to 40% can be lost as heat.

Anyone remember the video and can offer a link?  Or was this someone else.

Thanks

I think round-trip efficiency is more like 80%, but there may be other factors mentioned in the video.

~80%: https://batterytestcentre.com.au/project/lead-acid/ (https://batterytestcentre.com.au/project/lead-acid/)
76%: https://www.energyblueshelp.com/single-post/2017/09/04/Round-Trip-Efficiency-its-impact-on-cost (https://www.energyblueshelp.com/single-post/2017/09/04/Round-Trip-Efficiency-its-impact-on-cost)
85%: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352152X17304437 (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352152X17304437)

I though Dave a really nice video explaining it.  And it was 20/20 totaling 40% loss.
