Die Hard Beer
« on: April 28, 2012, 05:16:31 pm »
You are not the only one Dave I cannot stand the taste of beer, wine or spirits either. to me beer tastes like the smell of silage effluent, spirits all taste like ethanol and wine is the very essence of putrescence. So I never booze either, I was told I should have been born a Muslim but that would be a bummer as I like bacon butties.

That would be a relief. It was starting to feel weird.

I'm not familiar with the Austrailian brands that Dave fed to his sink, but the comments I've seen about "that's not beer" remind me of a joke:

(Joke uses Yank brands, sorry)

The president of Budweiser, Miller, and Coors were having dinner with the president of Guinness.

The president of Budweiser ordered a Budweiser to drink, naturally.  Likewise with the president of Miller, and Coors.
The president of Guinness ordered a club soda.
"What?" the other three said.  "Why didn't you order a Guinness?"
"Well," said the president of Guinness, "If you guy's aren't drinking beer, I figured I shouldn't either."

I'm not familiar with the beer brands Dave poured down the sink either.

Which brings to mind a useful piece of advice. Never drink beer at a party where the host doesn't drink beer. That must be why Dave had those bottles left over...

(And maybe Dave would like beer if he had ever tasted some  ;D )

He said it tastes like piss. So one would assume he's tried beer before, and worryingly piss as well. heh

I used to drink beer on occasion, but never much.  I like to cook with it, much better use for it, especially as a a marinade for meat over a fire.

Stopped drinking 23 years ago........

If there is I'd like to see it!
I've never had a full glass of wine in my life.

I have, and it tastes awful.
Alcohol is an acquired taste I never acquired. Few people taste beer for the first time and like it...

I've never had a full glass of wine in my wife.

Now I'm curious how that would work.

I'm no big fan of alcoholic beverages, to me most of the stuff tastes really horrible. Often very bitter and I'm no fan of bitter tasting things.
I've never finished a bottle of beer in my life, after about half I want to throw up, horrid stuff.
Wine is worse, it's like putting a spoon of very fine sand in my mouth.
Hard liquours smell like the stuff I've got in cans in the workshop to clean things, why would you drink solvents?k

There are one or two exceptions: I like a good Mojito for example, there's so much sugar, lime and mint in it that it takes the nastyness out of the rum and it tastes really nice.

Alsok I don't do coffee - what a hellish brew. Again that has something to do with bitter taste.

Many places in eastern Europe where people won't talk with you unless you can brew your own better than store bought.
More important than religion football an politics all put together. In my hometown it is a custom (as in many other places) for a new father to select and bury his best brew underground to be dug-up and drank at his child's wedding. Some damn good liquids I must say.
There too, store bought is often being compared to medical alcohol or paint thinner.

Interesting to hear of a German who prefers Mojito to beer. To me it tastes like toothpaste.

I'm absolutely sure there was a video of you with a glass of wine, I remember waiting for you to spill it on the circuit you've been working on, but it didn't happen. :P Unfortunately I can't find it now, but I think it was one of the older videos, maybe before #100 or something like this.

I vaguely remember a video like that too, but maybe it wasn't Dave in the video but someone else?

The only other possibility that comes to my mind is Photonicinduction, but EEVblog is the only videoblog I watch regularly, so I still think it was Dave.

I'm wondering if it was Mike, but I don't want to unfairly accuse him of drinking on the job...

Whoops, you're right, it was from The Signal Path. It's so rarely updated that I totally forgot about this one. Sorry for the confusion.
