Is there some requirement that Crowd Supply has that everything has to be DDP?

Charging 1000 and then paying $390 out of pocket costs everyone more than charging $610 and having customer pay $240.
Of course ignoring fees/etc.

no $ left for aftersales service  :(

This is why I mention that the intention of 999$ for the Crowdsupply campaign I think will not be possible, sadly...

Yes, it's mandatory to be DDP.

Well thats a huge pain in the ass.

It would be possible to charge $100 for the probe and then $900 for a software license to use it which has no tariff, but thats a tight line to walk and I don't know at what point you get into trouble with regulators.

This is not a bad idea, we can ship the probe without sw, selling only the hardware and provide a package to activate it via USB.
I will talk with CrowdSupply about this possibility.
