I like David! I want to see a bit of him every once and a while! He seems pretty cool and who doesn't love the haircut?
-
David hates Linux so therefore I vote for making him scrub the toilets with a tooth brush! >:D

In 50 or so years he'll be the Professor Poliakoff of electronics.

huh?! They have right AND left handed screwdrivers?! I thought they only had right handed ones. Can you send me a left handed one? I want to see how it feels in my right hand.

All of mine are left handed.

I second this

Wow. Dave finally did it. He found a way to clone himself. Good on David for not having an interest in social media (e.g. Twitter, and Facebook) but too bad he isn't a Linux fan. Perhaps Dave will get David to turn that scope right side up at last before all the electrons fall out of it and it stops working. :)

... and who doesn't love the haircut?
I would describe it as: not having a haircut.

It takes work to keep that Afro in shape, especially if you actually wash it regularly. You need about an hour each time just to do the drying, gel and combing. Here there are a lot of small roadside hair shops that will do it, and which also do extensions and weaves. The Marge Simpson look is quite common.

OK - observations.
With two Daves - the two-shot is screaming out for a POSITIVE feedback tee-shirt.
We can forgive the funky hair!
Cheers & Welcome to the PEE pack (Professional Electronics Engineering)

You should ban him, not for the blasphemy, but for not turning the scope whilst he had the opportunity to do so.
:-DD

Its akward that I got a haircut before the video was released. Hmm whoops.

Hello David.
Welcome.
You are right about Linux, but to quote a wise old sage ... "Use whichever OS best lends itself to the task"

Indeed.
As a PC tech and Software Engineer I've used, installed, and developed on a wide variety of operating systems, from MacOS 6 through X, Windows 3.1 through 8, BSD distros such as FreeBSD and NetBSD, and Linux distros such as Debian, Red Hat, Fedora Core, Ubuntu, Mint, and Gentoo.
I use Windows at work and home. My workplace is entrenched in Microsoft products (both user and development oriented), so I must use Windows at work.
If my workplace didn't use Windows, I'd still use Windows over Parallels/Boot Camp or something like Wine/CrossOver to run Windows environment software and games. Why? Because it just works without tweaking configs or worrying about performance on Apple hardware or flaky stability of Windows environment emulation like in Linux. Perhaps that's the fault of the market being so focused on developing for Windows?
The only alternative I see to negate the reliability issues in a Linux environment would be to run only Steam offered apps and games. But I wouldn't want to be tied down to just one portal company (no pun intended for "portal" ;) ).

Now we are done with talking about haircuts (David: when do we get to see the new haircut?)
Windows runs just fine on a Virtual box in Linux. I'm using it all the time and I usually have 2 or 3 running at the same time for different projects/purposes. The best thing is that I can copy the virtual machines over to a new Linux PC without re-installing!

Having it run "just fine" does not mean perfectly. It's still not a true Windows environment from hardware to software. And when you're a developer like me that makes a huge difference. Network stability issues, driver framework issues, etc, etc.
-
Don't twist my words! If you are pushing the limits you'll alway find a problem somewhere. I have tested running Windows from a virtual machine thouroughly over a period of 2 years before switching. Even timing sensitive things like programming microcontrollers (toggling pins on a USB device) works flawlessly. The biggest problem I found is disk flushing which stalls the VM for a while (depending on cache settings) but I solved that by using an SSD.

Strictly speaking, yes! :-+
