EEVblog 1519 - FREE Your Sonos Speaker! (HACK)
« on: December 12, 2022, 09:37:28 pm »
Hacking a dumpster Sonos Play 5 Gen 1 speaker to remove all the evil software locking and turn it into a dumb speaker with just line-in and basic wireless Bluetooth.
Integrating a new Fosi Audio ZX-TB21 2+1 amplifier.

Lol.  What a lot of faff for a bodge job. Btw did you notice the heatsink on the amp module is upside down? Where do you think the heat is supposed to go, when heat rises? Doh.

Loved the “Suntan” cap brand in Jaycar. Certainly bright enough to give you one!

Doesn't really matter where the heatsink is facing when its in an enclosed space. See DC plugpacks.

All passive cooled graphics cards and any other PC cards with passive cooling are like that. It makes cooling somewhat worse but it's not like it has nowhere to go.

Same place it goes inside any other electronic plastic enclosured product, into the ether.

I like it!

Another idea would be to use a cheap Ikea Sonos and remove the electronics and upgrade to Sonos S2  :-DD
Software bricking devices is probably one of the dumbest ideas ever. There should be hangings in front of Sonos HQ.
