Where do you store your crimp tools
« on: March 11, 2024, 04:48:58 pm »
Greetings,

Even after 30 years at my current, altogether too small, workbench, I find that the one tool, or group of tools, that just doesn't have a 'natural' home is crimp tools. I have probably a dozen of them for various connectors, pins, and whatnot. Tried a shoebox sized bin (which I buy when they go on sale a couple dozen at a time) full of them, but they get used so infrequently that the bin rotates to the bottom of a stack that is then difficult to get them out from under whan I need them.

The one solution I have that I like is putting the tool in with the connectors that they are for, but that only works for a limited set, e.g. there are crimp tools that cover many different pins.

There are too many to go into the on desk tool rack, etc, complain, whinge, karp, poor me.

Anyone ever come up with a decent solution?

I keep my crimp tools in a separate small duffel style tool bag, but common connectors like Molex and Powerpoles have their own separate parts drawers or boxes.

Good to read I'm not the only one with this problem. Though I haven't found a good solution yet.

For me, pliers in general are the road to storage chaos. Crimp tools are just a subcategory of pliers  :P
I have taken apart more gear than many people. But I have put less gear back together than most people. So there is still room for improvement.

Small pliers and handle tools are not too bad. I have a laser cut holder for Frequently Used Tools:

My small pliers, cutters, and strippers are in a separate small duffel style tool bag.  I keep my crimpers separate because a single bag with all of them would be inconveniently heavy, and I use the crimpers a lot less often.  Big pliers and cutters go in a large portable tool box with drill bits and such.
