The main controversy over GPL is that barring (developer specific) exceptions, code that links against GPL must also be GPL. The LGPL is an alternative that does not have that linking clause.

Mand Labs must be a fan of the Breakfast Club. That's the first thing that came to my mind with the loose screw in the box. Screws fall out all the time.  :)
