Because I worked in electronic  manufacturing  for  many years, wouldn't that  duel  footprint of those surface mount  chips also be used  for long term  repair  of the board  for say warranty or   RMA  repair ,   not just for the initial  manufacturing  process ?

Can be, yes.

Nice to see the insides of such a mic.  Thanks Dave.

I'm also impressed by the time taken from the shoot to upload....

To those interested - I was at the EEVblog lab this afternoon and left at about 4pm at which time Dave was just setting up his camera and the mic, to do the shoot.  A nice, efficient workflow.

The capsule is probably 50pF to 60pF of capacitance, so I suspect the gate resistor is 510M and not 10M because the lower value would lose some of the low end response due to high pass filtering by the C-R on the jfet input. It is not uncommon to see 1G resistors in professional condenser microphones.

Were you able to do any kind of insurance claim on the damaged hardware, and will you be installing some kind of rain cover or retractable awning for that room in case there is another heavy rain storm?
