Returned Faulty BM235 Switch Investigation
« on: October 27, 2019, 08:29:02 am »
Dave the problem with this meter is intermittent LCD contact you can see the problem 5m11s in. If it needs a new home I'll be happy to adopt it.

Dave mentions in the video that he doesn't sell on Amazon in Europe any more because of their regulations.
Just out of curiosity I'd love to know exactly which of Amazon's regulations make it so prohibitive for overseas sellers to sell things there now.

Ah I didn't see Dave did a new video. Probably the reason it was slightly intermittent is the PCB contacts might have needed a bit of a clean as well.

The regulations are likely related to the handling of the VAT.
Previously, it was generally accepted that the VAT is given to the country the seller is in. Not much bureaucracy, but, especially for non-european sellers, it could happen that no VAT at all was collected. I think that is what happened when i bough my BM235 some years ago, since it was considerably cheaper than elsewhere.

Now, VAT has to be calculated according to the country of the buyer, and of course has to be given to that country. In the EU alone that has created a bureaucratic nightmare, since EU regulations also say that you generally cannot decline a sale to a customer in another EU country...

I like the EU, i really do, but in many areas it has become a bureaucratic monster  |O
