Hey Dave , not to criticize  you  but  why didn't  you  bring  the Ipad  to a local  computer  repair store, instead of risking  blood shed  all  over  the bench  ::) ?

Quick tip! Cover the broken screen with tape before disassembly.

A mate of mine has become a bit of an expert at the screen replacement process on IPhones. After four broken screens it was discovered that his wife has an arthritic problem in her hands and struggles to hold the phone during calls, she didn't want to say anything about it.

On the subject of screens, another mate recently gave me a two year old Sharp Z2 (FS8002) mobile phone which has a cracked screen but otherwise works prefectly. I've asked in a few repair shops and also searched online but cannot find a replacement screen anywhere.

Much cheaper, like $20 vs over $100, more satisfying, and I got a video out of it (+ probably say $50 in ad revenue).

Get a "shockproof rubber case" for $10 if you don't have one already.

Shockproof case does help, but even with that you will be paying for new screens. Samsung and I are well acquainted at the repair centre. My own phone however is around 5 years old, and looks nearly like new, just on the second gorilla glass screen protector, after I managed to scratch the original one. The case does help though.

Back does have matching logo for the wallpaper, AM29030 chip carrier top stuck on there just under the camera.

I needed to do the same with an iPad 4th Gen and despite sturdy adhesive pads the new screen would raise up in the place where the digitizer flat flex is routed. Even though I think I did it all right, that didn't work out fine. Haven't touched any iFruit device ever since, and will avoid to do so. Kudos to them for not fusing the display and digitizer into a single unit though...

No problem to fit the glass in the most damaged corner of the aluminium frame ?

Love or hate the Apple products, you can easily get cheap parts for them.

The sticky lint roller sheets also help to pick up the little microscopic bits of glass that otherwise get embedded in your skin the next time you lean on the workbench mat.

Dave, it seems you tested the regular camera in the video but wasn’t it the selfie-cam that could have been affected as it was on the side that you had heat-treated? I’m sure they were probably both fine though. Good on you for keeping the home button... I don’t know if it affected only iPhones or all Apple stuff but could avoid something like error 53-gate... although I think Australia was one of the few or only countries that sued Apple and won to have people compensated by Apple for this fiasco.

:-+ Dave, thanks for showing us how that was done, including the hazmat briefing.

I've always wondered what was involved, thinking screen replacement was a kind of voodoo performed behind a Genius Bar by the secret cult of malus worshipers. Maybe I can pick up a cracked screen for-parts iPad on ebay and give it a go.

One thought, why are they using glass? Surely, Apple has so many billion$ stashed under the offshore matress, they'd have invented transparent Titanium by now?
