HUGE SURPRISE inside the new low end $699 Rigol 12bit low noise HDO1000 oscilloscope!

Discuss any hacking HERE: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/hacking-the-hdo1khdo4k-rigol-12-bit-scope/

@12:25, there is a big movement and some component layout changes in all of the front-ends passive SMD parts, to the top right of the IC.  Actually on closer inspection @9:10, it looks like there might have been drop in quality of the layout when trying to maintain high frequency performance.

Maybe the HDO1000 was designed first and some improvement was needed for the HDO4000.

I don't think you can get the same bandwidth with this change in the front-end, but they look dead close.

Also @9:10, to the right of the bottom relay, the largest resistor shown, the HDO4000 uses a 2202r resistor while the HDO1000 uses a 2501r resistor.

Deleting the 50 ohms option for the hobby range may be a point to reduce warranty claims.  The 50 ohms input does not look very robust and likely can relatively easy get damaged by a not so careful beginner.

It could have been a last minute decision and the lable could this still be off.

The extra costs for populating the 50 ohm option is not that high (mainly the relay). Not having it may effect parasitic capacitance and thus may have a negative effect on the normal input.

It seems Rigol are a bit confused whether these scopes are called "DHOxxxx" or "HDOxxxx". In fact, I am 55% confident these will ultimately be called DHOxxxx once the dust settles. For example, compare these two product images:

Unless they're actually delivering a different product to the US and the rest of the world, but I seriously doubt that.

Nice catch.
Seems unlikely to be a marketing department render error?  :-//

it has been known for a couple of months now. after being mentioned on the other hdo threads

DHO....
Both series are renamed to this and I wonder what this could mean.
HDO is clear, high definition oscilloscope, but DHO....
Definition high oscilloscope..sounds silly.
Dumb high...Do not buy high...
Nevertheless I´ve played with the thoughts to get a DHO1074 just for curiosity and testing - After that, re-selling would be easy...
But you can´t get it easy here in germany.
Batronix don´t sell them for reasons, Conrad Electronic got them and could deliver inbetween 2 weeks.
But there´s a note, not for private customers....Why....
DHO4000 is no problem so what are rigol doing there...Won´t they sell the 1000s to the public..
Strange selling policy here.

so yeah... maybe it doesnt matter. could always ask rigol or a distributor for the reason.

but for most people its just important to know for searching the product. to find where its available for sale.

Sorry I got it, they renamed HDO to DHO.

I believe Rigol got hit with a Lecroy trademark infringement claim using HDO.

If DHO802's ADC chip is the same as DHO4000 (as the chip marking claims), and DHO1000 board is exactly the same (except for frontend output traces and missing one ADC chip), then it's theoretically possible to buy DHO802 (320$) and DHO1074 (1000$), to move ADC from 802 to 1074, to change frontend traces, to solder ADC power ICs, to flash 4804 firmware, and
enjoy 4600$ DHO4804 scope just for 1320$  :-+  (minus price of the DHO802 sold for parts)....
And I know, it's crazy idea  :-BROKE
