EEVblog 1514 - Heat Pump Hot Water Install & Analysis
« on: November 11, 2022, 11:13:47 pm »
Replacing my gas tank hot water system with an electric heat pump system to use my excess solar power energy.
Before and after measurements and anlysis of the results.

00:00 - Measurements on existing Rheem 175L gas tank hot water system
04:00 - Installation of new Reclaim 415L Heat Pump hot water system
06:39 - Pipe work and tempering valve
09:27 - Temperature Measurements
10:00 - Standby power consumption
10:21 - Anlysis of measurements on whiteboard
15:00 - So the thermal calculations match the measurements?
17:13 - Never believe manufacturer claims!
18:00 - How more efficient is a Heat Pump system vs Gas?

Yes, taken down. I'm collecting more data and am waiting for some info from Reclaim.

Discussion link doesn't work unfortunately.
Regardless, and I have not seen the eevblog2 video or verified the calculations: If one needs 3kWh to heat up the water (plus the tank) from T1 to T2, and the heat pump uses exactly that - what is the point of the heat pump? A resistive heater will do the exact same thing minus all the expensive moving bits that can go wrong. Are we sure the heat pump is actually working?

Link fixed.
Yes it's working, the 3kWh heat figure was wrong.
