Has a Korean quantum research group cracked the holy grail of physics, an ambient temperature and pressure superconductor that will win them a Nobel prize and change humanity forever?
Probably not.
Dave completely busts the demo video of their LK-99 material with a pracical lab example, it's so embarrassing you won't believe it!

08:06 - This demo video is just a total embarrassment! It's just Lenz's Law!
10:36 - Let's reproduce the experiment!

The whole thing has been poorly handled. From the papers full of errors, the videos that don't prove anything, the questionable graphs and even more questionable results. I'm not an expert so I'm just reading the forums of what I assume are experts. They are not impressed. I hope they're wrong but I don't think they are.

How do we know that a youtube channel is officially linked to qcentre? I can create a youtube channel in minutes, I can upload a copy of the video and to put in description whatever I like

I want to see a prove that youtube channel is owned by the quantum energy research centre  - otherwise the copper demo means nothing

Yes, even if it could work, it likely would be limited in capacity, and would, if you can make small ceramic units, make for great bearings for small fans, like PC fans, with a life and RPM an order of magnitude over regular ones.  Get the noise ultrasonic, and the life over 100k hours, and you can have non noisy fans, or at least ones that are easy to silence.

Although their page appears to be down at the moment:

https://qcentre.co.kr/

The way back machine archived a snapshot of the page a few days ago and that video is linked on the front page:

In Dave's Video, this copper plate video is linked to on qcentre.co.kr
That alone should show a connection.

I can't verify that myself though, qcentre.co.kr has been blocked for too much traffic  |O

It is the video on the website, directly linked. And I verifed the email address of the Youtube channel. Zero doubt they made it and put it there.

Remains to be seen.

I can't blame everyone for being skeptical though.

If it ever does turn out to be true, even though it's a ceramic, it could revolutionize a lot of things.  Ceramics can be formed into small coils or be used as conductors embedded into substrates for various integrated and/or hybrid circuitry or deposited onto circuit boards as traces.

Once you have a magic wand you begin to find all sorts of things to wave it at.

Anton Petrov did a video on it:

Looking at the photo in the video above:

I can say 2 things...

1. I used to play with pennies on speaker magnets when I was young and I could occasionally get 1 or 2 coins to slightly stand at an angle if placed down and oriented 2 to 3 pennies just right.  If this material isn't evenly magnetically distributed across it's surface, this effect could be a fluke.

2.  I've seen examples of diamagnetic materials, the effect shown is a little too strong for the run of the mil diamagnetic materials, if it wasn't for their other super blunder video, I might be forced to say they may have the beginning of something, but don't have a clue as to the required refinement component which makes it work or how to replicate.  Basically what you see here is the sole semi-functional sample in existence and they have yet to replicate anything larger than what you see.

Their site is presently up and it shows the same video on the main page.  The page links to the video on Youtube...

But... so what?   It's a pointless video.  It doesn't indicate anything one way or the other.  There's no particular text explaining what the video is about, other than saying it is a "Magnetic Property Test of LK-99 Film".

I wonder how many more posts we will see here about this video before we find something useful reported re conformation or refutation of the paper?

There doesn't need to be any other explaination for everyone with even a modicum of knowledge in the subject to know that it doesn't matter what this test is supposed to show, it's laughable BS to do such a thing using a copper plate. This is the kind of level of silliness you expect from a dodgy crowd funding video, let alone out of a university studying this stuff.

To your point, you would be OK if EEVBlog titled his video " Magnetic Property Test of FR4 fiberglass material" . Because, you know,  who cares that FR4 sample was deposited on a piece of copper .

This is exactly the sort of near-hysterical reaction I'm talking about.  Complaining about this video is no different than complaining about news reports and how they are distorted by the reporters.  This video might well have been posted because of marketeers at the organization.  The people directly connected to the project might well know nothing about it and have no authority to have it removed.

I'm waiting for more substantial news, from the researchers, both in this company, and the others who might duplicate the research.

So you think the marketing team actually made the video?
No, the scientists made the video, someone in the lab went to the trouble of themrally depositing the material onto a COPPER plate. So they get to eat humble pie as a result of this embarressing mistake.

No, they wouldn't be. Some people don't like having their sacred cow questioned in any way what so ever. It doesn't matter how I titled the video, what the description is, or what I said or didn't say.

The video was made to what purpose?

You are inventing motive/intent from whole cloth.  That's my point and you are proving me right.

We have reached the point in the conversation, where each of us has made our points very clearly.  You wish to be a drama queen about this.  I prefer to acknowledge that there was a scientific paper written, and wait for the scientific responses.  Anything else seems to be hype.

Until there is something worth responding to, I won't bother you further.

The video was made to what purpose?

I saw this huge announcement (and many viewers contacted me about it) and I initially went, "meh whatever", and wasn't going to do a vidoe.
And then I saw the absolutely ridiculous video on the main web page, so I did a video laughing at and debunking that. Am I not allowed to do that? Why?
That video was probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever done a debunking video on.
If you can't seperate debunking that video from the actual research and paper, then that's a you problem.

Watch my video again. You clearly MISSED the part where I said that there could be something to this and that teams are working on trying to reproduce it. Great, wait for the results. That doesn't mean people should not mock that ridiculous video. It's a complete embarressment for the entire scientific team.

They changed the video description!
It's no longer a copper plate, it's an enriched uranium 235 plate!
And they somehow reset the video view count and thumbs without changing the URL.

I'm no chemist, but it's a very strange material choice to demonstrate your superconductor film. And it's one of the most controlled materials on earth, so the cynic in me says it's very convenient if you don't want people to verify.
I can't help but think they are just taking the piss in response to my video.
In that case it's rather funny and I tip my tap to the joke. But when the whole world is questioning the credibility of your research, is that such a good idea?
But I'm open to someone explaining why you'd use enriched uranium 235 for such a thing?

IIRC correctly, if it's a solid then you can handle it with your hands.

It shows "deposited on a copper plate" for me now. It also did yesterday.
I jumped around a bit with VPN, the description is always the same.

EDIT: Nevermind  |O
Two different Video URLs:

Uranium Plate, linked by Dave, 47 seconds long.

Copper Plate, linked by gunarm, also the same as in daves video, 48 seconds long

Most likely something got lost in translation. In my experience the South Koreans are not the best where it comes to mastering the English language. Let others try to re-create the experiment.

EDIT: I see Ranayna already posted this above. I should have twigged to this when the video count had been reset.

It gets stranger. There are two videos, they didn't change the description.

The link I posted is the one I had in my video description and card. But I checked my actual video and it is indeed the other video (that still says copper) with  179k views.
So it seems there are two copies of the videos on two different channels. Once channel is "@qcentre" and the other is "@q-centre". Both have legit emails to the company domain, and the uranium one is on a channel dating from 2012 but was uploaded yesterday.
I don't know how I got the newer video link in my original video description and card, but used the original one to record the screen capture.
So more evidence it's a joke re-upload? But if so I don't know how you fake the business email address, so it's got to be them.

The "copper" video:

The "uranium" video:

No, i thought something was going on here in this Thread :D
On the first page already @aWaken mentioned uranium, which i took as a take on it being unclear if the video is really associated to QCentre.
But now Dave mentioned Uranium well, while at the same time, the links i knew only mention copper.
It turned out there are *two* videos, and yes, the uranium might be a reaction to Dave. Who knows.  :-//
https://qcentre.co.kr/ is still down for me, still with what deeple translates to a "Bandwith Exceeded" message, so i do not know if they are reallt now linking to the "uranium" version.

Half life is millions of years, so not more radioactive than a banana.
Why would you choose it to grow ceramics on, no idea.

It looks like an internal test. I don't think it was ever supposed to be released.
That information seems to make sense. Someone made this material, worked on it, then left the research. probably realized his idea will never work. Then someone else picked up the pieces, saw that he was working on room temperature superconductor, and then it got released somehow. I mean, if it work, that's instant Nobel price, and investments until the cows come home.

So more evidence it's a joke re-upload? But if so I don't know how you fake the business email address, so it's got to be them.

Several people verified you can change email without re-verification, so likely 3rd party troll.

But the joke is on all the Youtubers that got wound up about a video that has zero engineering / scientific content and context to start with. That should have been a bright red herring. At least the paper shows some actual data and information to reproduce the material (by people well versed into creating these kind of materials).

There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

When a car manufacturer makes an announcement to general public that a new concept car was created, do they publish the car drawings in some obscure magazin or do they put the car on the display at autoshows for everyone to see ?

Would you take a model-T Ford as a serious display/image for a new car? I guess not and the videos showing nothing more than waving a magnet along a piece of non-ferrous metal are just like that (and most likely fake or a distraction).

Replicated?  Someone did actual science and replicated experimental results? Could it be actual science is going on?

Breakthrough in Superconductivity: Huazhong University Scientists Report First Successful Replication of LK-99. In a potentially landmark development in the world of superconductor research, scientists at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology have claimed to achieve the first successful replication of the superconducting material LK-99.

What have they "replicated"? I don't see any superconductivity in that video.

That's exactly why I did my video. There was all this media and community hype over this, so I go the the companies website and the first thing I see is so absolutely laughable I had to share it.
And here people are expecting me, a regular electronics engineer, to either confirm or bust some deep superconductor physics  ::)

Dave completely busts the demo video of their LK-99 material with a pracical lab example, it's so embarrassing you won't believe it!

I think Dave's video may be faked as well, I mean if you look carefully at the shot of the FR4 you can see the strings!  Shock, horror, scandal!

Did any third party lab tried to replicate the paper?

Many are working on it.
There is a table someone created here to track progress. I dunno how up to date or accurate it is

I watched the following videos. It states no one was able to replicate it.

Of course.

Bloomberg sent a reporter to visit the Quantum Energy Research Centre.  It's... I dunno, I can't read Korean, a laundromat?  Sort of par for the course for this whole story.

A comment from Philip Moriarty in Sixty Symbols series:

The video referred to in the beginning is likely the one from Sabine Hossenfelder:
People imagine AI as T1000. What we got so far is glorified T9.
