LoZ is fine while the inputs not exceeded.

Discharging on ohms is bad practice due to unexpected failure modes, in turn leading to accidents.

You're essentially abusing the input for the sake of an otherwise trivial task such as making a discharge resistor lead (good practice in understanding discharge curves).

Sometimes I install a discharge resistor into a dual banana plug and place the dual plug between the multimeter and test leads.  Or I used one of my multimeters which has standard binding posts.  Then I can have any input resistance that I want in voltage mode.  Of course this depends on the multimeter having standard 3/4" spacing which many newer meters do not.

There is a schematic or teardown somewhere of Flukes LoZ addon accessory which is a dual banana. Resistor is handy for loading power supplies and circuits in a pinch as well.
