are there really no stops in place to prevent something like "allanhit" signing up and the same day doing ~80 spam posts?

Many forums limit the number of posts you can make with time. It should be longer.
The commie spammer bot is averaging one post/minute.

I have watched this SPAM attack grow. There is a 30 second delay on posting so that has slowed its progress. Talk about aggressive spamming though ! Have not seen such here before. I wonder if IP blocking can prevent the perpetrator repeating the “attack” or will they just change IP via a VPN  :-//

The 'Report to moderator' link works best as all mods get informed. PMing a specific moderator doesn't take into account their availability and timezones. I'm sure many of us have reported it by now.
Best Regards, Chris

I wonder if one day drones are going to try to fly into apartment buildings to put up pamphlets for Chinese food

like flying printers or graphitti bots

Ideally, a new user should have a variable timeout.  The more they post, the longer the timeout between postings.  But I'd be surprised if the forum software has a feature like that.

Is it possible for new users to have a daily limit on the number of posts?

Where on earth are the moderators? This Russian has been spamming the forum for hours now. Joined 16:38 today, 128 spam messages all over the forum so far.

It's the weekend, mods are on holidays  ;)
Hopefully the commies haven't hacked into the server to do this.

This kind of nonsense happened regularly on usenet, and was not limited to the infamous Canter and Siegel.

There was a good solution: usenet readers had filters which allowed you to completely ignore posts matching your chosen filter. "Completely" means "do not see this post nor any replies to it".

In that regard, usenet was an improvement on its successors.

Shame the "ignore subthread" filter doesn't work on this forum.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
Glider pilot's aphorism: "there is no substitute for span". Retort: "There is a substitute: skill+imagination. But you can buy span".

I have just seen that Dave is on the forum so hopefully our Russian ‘friend’ will soon be banned.

Update : I just checked and all has returned to normal with the perp deleted along with all the Spam posts. Great job  :-+ :-+
