eevblog #46

(1/1)

Thermionic:
Hi,

I've just discovered the eevblog ... a year late I know, but it's great!
Trying to catch up by watching several each day, and I just viewed #46.

I was intrigued by the Gossen Metrawatt's reading of the 3v, and the initial reading of 3.27v, and was wondering if there was any significant overshoot of the powersupply on switch on that the Gossen was able to read, that other meters might miss, before the supply settled down? Just a thought.

openground:
Interesting to note the xtra is only 11999 Dsplay count but the tout it as 60000 count resolution, which is a horse of a different colour- at least with the bmi dranetz version.

Yeah I thought that was weird too.

The Dranetz DranTech PRO/XTRA product page (http://dranetz.com/drantech-xtra-pro) says 4 1/2-place display (11,999 counts), the brochure PDF* (http://www.tequipment.net/pdf/Dranetz/XTRA_datasheet.pdf)* says 4 ¾ -digit display (60,000 counts).

* You have to register to download the brochure from the dranetz website (lame). Tequipment.NET has a copy on their site.

Even TEquipment.NET thinks the PRO and XTRA are 60000-count meters (http://www.tequipment.net/DranetzMultimeterGuide.html).

I checked the User Guide PDF and it in the technical section is lists the following:
Number of digits 4 7/8 digits = 60,000 counts
Overflow display “0L” is displayed for >= 12,000 digits

So who knows...
