I reckon there needs to be a blog index where you can look at a text-only list of all the episodes, say 50-100 per page and click on the one you want to see, in addition to the archive listing month by month as it is now. Does anyone else think that?

Yup, an index would be great. There is about 530 or more videos now. Surely it's not all old news and we only care about the past 2 or 3 here?

Only the first 42 episodes are missing for some reason, probably because it only lists the last 500 episodes.

I think they meant something like episode guide.

Much more useful than just list of episodes. It could include all kinds of information. Requires actual people to sit down and write that stuff.
EEVblog already has a wiki, but I'm sure Dave wont start writing things about the episodes down. Or at first it could be just youtube description and video embedded and all the necessary links.
