This reminds me of when Sparkfun took delivery of a reel of fake Atmel 328Ps a few years ago.  Sparkfun needs to pay through escrow with these cheap/fraudulent Chinese distributors so if they don't get their product the idiots don't get paid.

https://www.sparkfun.com/news/350

Of course, this second time they didn't get burned like the first time but that was thanks to Fluke's generosity.

I think there was one mistake - Dave said "the battery is still in there". Apart from that, very clever.

I thought that a corporation like Fluke would give a kit a different name, like 114K for kit.
Bu that though was gone fast and I fell for it
Good one !

Dave, I need the multimeter.
Deeply.

Because I believed every word of the crap you told in the video. And I tweeted to Fluke. And I wrote to Fluke on Facebook. Probably they’re still laughing...

I believed the damn video and tweeted Fluke. I have now sent out tweets to Keithley and Tektronix for a 2400 SMU kit and a MDO4000B kit as well. Let's see how that goes.
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

Good stuff Dave:  I have informed some High School science teachers to keep track of this.  I have supported Sparkfun and Fluke by buying their stuff and I will continue to do so.  ¡MUY BUENO!

Cheers, Mark

Well OK: I plead ignorance (or just ignorant) as I did not know it was April or for that matter that the day before was in March.  I'm retired; beauty!

I believe that part of the video was true and not an April fools joke.

Back in 1995, I was lucky enough to pick up a Fluke 79 that I had for years and years.  I got it because I was in the appliance repair business at the time, and it was one of the few meters out there that could actually read the diode out of a microwave oven.  Most others did not have a high enough voltage to do that.  I had the meter for several years, and last year, I moved into a new house.  Within 2 months, both of my vehicles were broken into and everything was stolen, including my Fluke 79.  Of course the cops didn't care.  It is gone forever.

Recently, I have been getting more and more into electronics, and I soon missed my Fluke more then anything.  I would love to have another one, but wow, they are pricey.  It was a toss up between dropping a few hundred for a new meter, or using the money on my son's science fair project.  Guess who won.  If his project isn't disqualified, he is going to kick ass!  If he wins this, I think a Fluke anything would be a great reward.

Yes, showed that that social media crowd is as bad at fact-checking than the traditional media.

To be fair, I did engineer it that way, saying it hadn't been released yet, and was so new etc, and implied that Fluke would like to garner interest via social media hash tags etc. It's not surprising that people just tagged away and didn't bother asking Fluke first.
I contemplated setting up a dedicated website at the last minute, but that seemed like too much trouble for too little reward.

I suspect people there were quite a few people who knew it was an april fools joke but still contacted fluke, just to add to their (fluke + other social medias) confusion.

Grr! Every year! I get fooled by Dave's April fool's pranks every year. And every year I tell myself, "he won't get me next year", and of course he does.

Well done Dave!  :-+

:palm: Oh noes you got me again.

Quote from Fluke's Facebook "The reaction to Dave’s post and video has been incredible! While we don’t currently have plans to build this kit, we are certainly passing your enthusiasm for it on to our product planning team."

  to you Dave.
