I understand the situation of standing by helplessly and going 'WTF' ??!!??

Yeah, it takes forever to get your reputation back if at all. By then the number 2 overtakes ya.

There is a business ethic that stipulates one should never rest on his laurels of he'll fall behind. Maybe, in business, it has a bit to do with having a giant ego and behaving like a ignorant moron as a result.

Also, something a marketing guy told me once a long time ago.. The pitch the marketing folks make to the MD's/Execs/CEO's is aimed squarely at those people in the meeting and not some buyer of any products.

It's not and easy problem to solve unfortunately. It's becoming hard to be a consumer.  ;D :-\
