EEVBLOG#570 LAB Cleanup And Shelving
« on: May 11, 2014, 03:02:01 pm »
Hello Dave,

you asked for help with your LAB:
I think you need to organize an chaotic storage system https://imgur.com/gallery/uHZbW for all your stuff (particularly the things under your existing bench):
Place all parts in boxes where they fit.
Use only boxes with cover, because of dust. http://www.ikea.com/au/en/search/?query=samla/
Label the boxes with ongoing numbers for example.
Write the content and the number of the boxes to a searcheable program/database like excel or access.
Different parts in one box is no problem.

about the workbench:

Keep the workbench empty! (except a lot of power-sockets)
Put the equipment needed for work out of the shelf and put it back to the shelf immediately after the work is done.
This is the only way to have always enough space and you can easily clean the workbench regularly.
A mainswitch for the whole LAB to eliminate all the standby stuff.
Dont forget a higher platform for SMD work. Your spinal column will be thankful.

I'm sure it's an organised mess. My desk at work is the same. The important thing is, I can remember where everything is. No one else needs to know my "system". I'm also not "customer facing" so why does it matter?
