Title: EEVblog #86 - Need Analog Oscilloscope
Post by: parbro on June 17, 2011, 07:22:55 pm
I am just getting started into learning electronics and have hit the limits of my computer sound card o'scope. In the spirit of Dave's video, I could really use an analog oscilloscope donation or low cost option. I live in Florida. Any ideas? Thanks.

Look at eBay,in the "for sales" in your local paper.

If there are Radio Hams in the area, you may be able to find out if there is a "Ham Fest" coming up.
I bought a very nice Tektronix 7613 for $135 at a local Hamfest.

As you are in the USA,you could look in QRZ.com to see if any Hamfests are being held,or if anyone is selling an Oscilloscope in your area.

OOPS!,I looked on QRZ.com,& one bloke in Oregon has a 100MHz HP Oscilloscope for sale,but it's a bit costly,around $350 if I remember correctly.
That was posted about a week ago in their "Online Hamfest" section.

They also have a section showing upcoming Hamfests, but it looks like there is nothing immediate in Florida (You just missed one)
I just realised EEV Blog have their own "For Sale" section,it might be best to look there first.

I liked this oscilloscope, that I am familiar with in electronics school days at community college, before the U.  The HP 1725A at 275 MHz analog oscilloscope with the cathode ray tube, heavy weight.  It is solidly built and great for viewing electronics and home brew amplifiers.

Surf here to get an idea on the costs and how it appears.  Beware, there are some not working models on E Bay, too.

There are many Tektronix 22xx series and the 20 MHz 2205 are widely available, too.  Philips made in Eindhoven, Netherlands is another good brand to buy second hand, but many are not functional, broken advertised on E Bay.
