$80 for that setup sounds very reasonable. Only downside like you say, slightly lower efficiency of 96lm/w vs 130-140lm/w for competing panels.

Which is ~90% efficient. I'm going to assume thats taken into account in the lm/w figure of the panel. So the LEDs themselves are closer to 110lm/w.

LED strips work great. Mix warm white and cold white to allow fine tuning the color temperature. RGB gives you even more adjustment, if you can get the colors to mix well enough...
