Wow. As with others, I was just sitting down to watch the Voyager and DSN vids. Scratching my head looking for the new channel in my subscriptions and/or my history on Apple TV, and it's gone! Went to browser on comp to get the link through EEVblog and *boom*. 😟
I just can't imagine what triggered the lockout. Crazy.
Prohibited from accessing, possessing or creating any other YouTube accounts? WTF?
So now Dave isn't allowed to post EEVBlog videos? Or even access his account?

Yeah it stinks.
Watched both and they were very good. More like them please.
Might be something to do with the name. "ediscovery" is another name for the legal term "Electronic Discovery" - something that Youtube's laywers would be drowning in. Basically "EEVdiscover" may be too close and may have tripped a whole series of automatic alerts.
It seem to me that YouTube is putting advertisers front and center instead of YouTubers that made this platform viable in the first place, effectively muting folks' voices by demonitizing creators' videos that advertisers don't like. The EEVdiscover channel may have triggered someone.
And no do not expect this way-too-broad auto banning to go away as it is there to satisfy the advertisers (aka megacorporations.)
Is there any viable alternative to YouTube?
Is there any viable alternative to YouTube?
Business-wise probably not
I bet Dave is already contacting them to get this sorted.
Dave,
I'm guessing that your channel name was too close the the "Discovery Channel," which is an American cable channel (if you don't get it down there).

We do, and I think you may be right.....
The other flag might be a cruise ship named "Voyager 2" selling trips ....that's the trouble with algorithm driven judgements.......they need a human to check the results before bans are acted upon....... or this will just happen again and again.
Wow Youtube has really gotten ridiculous with their copyright bullshit, that's the only thing I can see that they could use as an excuse. Maybe it sounds too close to "Discovery Channel"? Or it's not considered family friendly enough? (that is apparently a new policy now).
There really needs to be a competitor to Youtube, since as long as they have monopoly they'll keep being able to pull off crap like this. idealy said site would need to be outside the US. The US is too insane when it comes to IP laws.
I have watched a few of Dave's videos over the years but I just am not that much into electronics anymore and am not interested in reviews of test equipment. My dad was a technician who maintained analog tv transmitters so I really enjoyed the old tv transmitter vid and I am obsessed with space so enjoyed the new videos on the DSN. I have trimmed back by YT subscriptions to more relevant content and channels like EEVblog didn't make the cut because as I said I am just not that into electronics anymore. But I would definitely sub to this new channel for content similar to this. Unfortunately Youtube has ripped the videos out of my history and killed the new channel so I can't share the videos with people. I hope it gets resolved soon and the new channel does well.

I had wondered if that might be the cause as well, but doing a channel search for "Discovery" on youtube turns up 30 pages of results. Many are related to the Discovery Channel proper, but a significant number are not. Of the ones with no affiliation several had larger subscriber counts than EEVDiscovery and have been up for a lot longer. I think something else is going on
Tell us where to send inquiries to YT asking for explanations. I watched both videos and that generic message does not make sens to me. If a few thousand people will ask they cant ignore it.
As annoying as his voice is, he usually racks up tasty muck, so maybe there's been some collateral damage from the Ministry of Information's latest airstrikes...
I started watching the first Voyager 2 video, but had to go before finishing it.
Now I can't see what happened next!!!!!

Doubt it's discovery channel. They don't have a monopoly on the word discovery. It was most likely Voyager 2 that triggered it and sent it to some idiot in a poor country for review who knows nothing about space probes and just went "dis ain't no cruise! Totes scam!". Sometimes I wish the servers handling this

would get hit by lightning and go
EEVdiscover is back again!
Yes it's back now, no idea why.
It was not the form I filled in because they replied with "We see no problem with this account" so they obviously reviewed it after someone else had hit the reinstate button.
And no it would not have been a Discovery Trademark thing. No way they would have just ignored a Trademark claim and gave me my channel back.
As Dave alluded in his video:
- New channel.
- Four videos uploaded quickly, two of which had a checksum match to existing videos on another channel. (Never mind that it was the same account owner)
- Very fast rise in subscriptions over a short period of time.
- Monetization is enabled.
- No channel icon.
Taken individually these are normal things that can occur to a channel, but together they likely triggered the auto-delete bot.
The highest offenders were that it was a brand new channel and multiple video checksums matched another channel's content and monetization is enabled.
It is not normal for a new channel to contain 50% content taken from another channel and gain 10K subscribers that fast. Triggered.
Glad it's back.
Absolutely love the DSN/Voyager videos (I had a home built 8 meter parabolic dish in my backyard bouncing 1296 MHz signals of the moon, so love this stuff)

Yep, I'd put money on that being the reason...
Dave,
Thanks for EEVdiscover.
I like the DSN videos. I’ve never seen any part of the DSN this close-up before. I would’ve loved to see some footage from the radio room with the cryogenic LNA and transmitters, but these where probably off limits.
The synchrotron video brought back memories as I did some work at the Eindhoven technical University cyclotron accelerator facility during my study.
Keep up de good work.
