Just wondering if Extech ever got back with Dave and if they redid anything on the boards? Is that problem with the PCB something that we can still see if we purchase Extech Meters?

No, they didn't.
I have tweeted Extech about it.

I have a question about one contestant, Uni-T UT61D: does it short its inputs when it shuts itself after time?

A friend mentioned that some DMMs have this quite annoying habit.

What... the... mind asking your friend what meters he knows doing so? That's incredibly dangerous and I seriously doubt a meter like that would pass any safety directives.

Think of a voltmeter hooked up in a 1000v circuit where fault currents reach thousands of amps and then shorting it out...

This sounds clearly as misinformation..  :)
There is no such multimeter in the market.
