I wish my family life would allow more time to post on this forum.
And another to get me up to x5 posts
Lots of postings coming up from people who couldn't even manage to piss their name in the snow.
Have you ever *tried* to piss a Greek name?
You think that's bad, try this one:

Never mind Greek... I feel sorry for the guy from Taiwan...
I'm hoping some thread thinning goes on just before the draw.
Remove all the posts that are obviously just to boost the users post count would certainly reduce the number of valid entries.
Would have been nice to split the contest into multimeters and logic analyzer. I'd want the latter, but deleted my submission because I already own the former.

Dave isn't a dickhead, and we all know that. He will be able to read into what sort of posts the winners are actually posting.
Or are you hinting that you are going to be bringing the global post count of every member to 0 so you win by default

Sounds like a plan!
Actually I'd be OK with Dave excluding me as a moderator from the draw. While it's nice to win stuff, I'm sure there are users here who'd get a lot more out of the prizes than would I.
If we were talking about tools for the shed, then that's a different matter!

But that doesn't matter if you post-check the winners. If they aren't up the scratch then redraw. You haven't lowered anyone's odds.
Lot less work than thinning the herd!

Ok, lets looks at some stats:
Based on the graphs:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/forum-getting-too-popular/msg305039/#msg3050391500 news posts in a day, up from 500 or so usual. That's say 1000 posts due to the contest announcement.
The contest thread has 55 pages of 15 posts per page = 825 posts.
That leaves only an extra 175 regular posts due to the contest, or up by 35% on the regular daily value.
And if you divide that by 5 as worst case figure for newbies signing up for the contests, it's only 35 people, tops.
That would be a max figure due the stats being out of date by however many hours.
Not a huge increase really?
Given that quite few (majority perhaps?) would have been existing users with one or a few posts, it does not seem like the sky has fallen here, as much as it might seem to have for some.
Dave,
Perhaps the next contest that has multiple prizes (examples below) could be tiered to something like
Grand prize ($500 dmm) - members > 1 year with > 100 posts
2nd prize ($100 dmm) - members > 6 months with > 50 posts
3rd prize ($50 dmm) - members with > 5 posts

I'm sure a number of people prefer to watch, read and learn, and may be too intimidated to be active on the forums.
great giveaways this time

would love to score the gossen.

Your calculation doesn't take into account that because of the high traffic volume from new users a bunch of old users aren't currently posting. Not everyone hast the time and patience to wade through all the stuff. Pressing "Mark all messages as read" is just easier.
Further, in that other thread I listed something like five examples of new users who were just posting junk. It just took me a few minutes to find them in the mess the forum had become. And I didn't have to look very hard. If I can find 1/7 of the theoretical 35 misbehaving users in just a few minutes, then maybe the estimation of only 35 misbehaving users is wrong. Further, I wasn't the only one posting some examples.
I'm in, I hope! But maybe not, as I did previous posts, either here or on youtube, without this login...

The funniest and most ironic part is that your post is surrounded by n00bz.

I like how we're all just ignoring the people who try to enter the drawing in this thread.
If they can't figure out which thread to post in, I'm not so sure they can figure out how to use anything more than a $1.99 multimeter, anyway.
I mostly read so I don't think I qualify .... but what i was curious about and could not find any link to on the forum except for one mention of that dutch guy in the states that send that amazing box of goodies to Dave .....
