Dear Dave:
--It occurred to me that, possibly, you could, multiply the each persons entry by his/her number of posts, and put those in the selection file. I.E. if Joe has 1400 posts then he has 1400 entries. If there are less than 5 posts, multiply by zero. Then you would select at random as previously. This would still give all legal entrants a chance, while giving you major contributors a leg up.
--Are you really paying the shipping all the way to East Wazoo?

Dave, just to say, I hate your practice run :-DD :-DD
Better luck next try I guess ::)

Interesting idea, but I prefer the idea that everyone gets an equal shot regardless of your contribution level.
Yes, I'm paying the postage to Whoop Whoop.

Poor Poor Hungary! With it's 1000 years of history! Nowadays degraded into "middle of no where" In the eyes of Australian's and American's alike. :'(

Well, whether it makes sense or not depends on the objective of the giveaways.
- To reward loyal viewers / followers / contributors, this would indeed make a lot of sense. But OTOH there isn't much advantage for Dave to do that since most of them would stay viewers / contributors even if he didn't apply this weighting technique.
- To attract new viewers / contributors. This of course would yield increased revenues so that's a big plus. And then this technique really doesn't make sense because it would pretty much discourage any new viewers / contributors ...
And this is also further reinforced by the length during which the give away is open. To reward existing regular contributors, you would have a relatively short period and not give enough time to new comers to just go makes some quick contributions to other posts just to enter the giveaway.
So from a revenue stand point the current model makes a lot of sense. After all, this is his job ...

Just to add to this, due to this idea of weighting it would be most likely that the same person or group of people would win, because they would have the most chances. This would simply promote multitudes of garbage posts by people, just to increase their post count to have a better chance at winning something.
