My first thought is that the 'Australia Only' giveaway must also be open to NZ since Dave has stated many times that NZ is part of Australia.

I watched the video and if I understood it correctly every member with more then a 1000 posts or a supporter of the site automatically participates in a draw for one of the scopes.

But it is funny to see how this actions draw in new users, even though stated that a minimum of maybe 20 posts would be needed  :palm:

For European members it will with high certainty lead to paying tax on them due to the new rules. Does not matter if it is a gift or a price, the taxman wants his cut.

Seems the Aussie one Dave chose to allow any Ratbag and one post wonder to join in  :o I would love to see the IP addresses of some of them as I suspect they might be a little similar to each other :palm:

Yeah they love the tax on imports here.

Luckily this scope is pretty cheep. However if you won one of those 6GHz MXR series scopes... sheesh the tax on that alone would probably cost as much as a used car!

I don't quite understand the rules and it might be considered bad form to enter into three separate competitions. A very lucky person could potentially win three slightly used Keysight scopes.   ;D   I've entered in two threads so far and don't think number 3 exists yet.   ???
1. Any country.
2. Australia only.
3. Supporter status.

Maybe Keysight will send these from within the EU when someone in the EU wins it. Otherwise, yes you won't be a happy winner.  :-DD

For sure it is good for a bit of a chuckle. Like the reference to being on a budget and chicken being to expensive.  :-+

It does attract a lot of new members, like bears to honey.  :-DD

As normal, back in the day I was moderator in a PC hardware website and every single time we had a giveaway the forum would be full of new members and activity, dying out after it.

That's the gist when free stuff is giving away, whatever the prize, and everyone likes a freebie.

I just hope the prizes go to people who really need them, like students and people who don't own any kind of scope and not to people to pawn it on ebay or other sales websites, but that is the luck of a draw and Dave's decision.

Yeah, the only thing I've ever won online was by joining a PC forum to enter into a contest. Never posted there again, sorry.  :D

I entered into the Keysight giveaway multiple times but never won anything. Come to it I hardly ever won with any form of lottery  :( Once 25 guilders in the Dutch state lottery as far as memory serves.

And if by change it happens now I will pass it on to someone else, because I have enough scopes already.  :)

I've never won anything here, so far, but once upon a time I was that guy with under 20 posts in a contest for something. No longer true, of course. I don't blame them for trying, but those calling it unfair are going too far.

Elaborate please.

Do you mean the newcomers complaining that you need at least 20 posts or the established order complaining about the newcomers giving it a try?

Sure I can't blame them for trying, but it is up to Dave to decide to let them compete for the scope or not. Based on the fact that he wrote it in the first post as a requirement he should eliminate every entry below the 20 posts.

Lighten up guys.

Maybe it is not all ulterior motives. I for one didn't sign up expecting to "win" a "free" gift, but thought it could be fun showing some appreciation to Dave since following him for many years on youtube and reading selectively on the forum from time to time during the years. There could be some registering on the forum for the first time for different and fair reasons.

Don't whack the mole when it sticks it head out .. I'm sure Dave will sort this in a fair way since it is his pick.

Btw.. last time I was really active on 'social' media was back in the Fidonet / AmigaNet days, yes BBS'es and PSTNs and modems being a moderator for years, then work, family and life got in the way ;D

But I do have a Hantek DSO2D10 scope, which I purchased a few years back I think, after reading the positives on the forum.. In hind sight maybe I should have gotten different advice  ::) Well it was cheap, but still being scammed by the manufacturer  |O .. If I remember correctly I can only get the highest sample rate in 4k depth and one channel, and it looks suspiciously interpolated so it is nowhere near 1GS, maybe a quarter of that.

The specs tell different story :-DD

Cheers mates ;)

Just to be ahead of any dire comments.. I didn't write this just to get my posts count up  ;)

Oh .. now I have 3.

Apologies, but I couldn't resist, given the circumstances  :-DD

That is one for the thread about it, but it actually does 1GSa/s, and indeed only on a single channel. With both channels enabled it only does 500MSa/s at max.

The memory issue has to do with the FPGA they used and the speed of the memory in it. It being a cheap scope it is what you pay for, but at least they are honest about the specs. Not all companies are.

The former, although the one entry that triggered me appears to have been edited and tamed down since then, so I won't link it.

And yes, having watched a previous draw, Dave does eliminate those under 20 posts. Note Dave also said posts "over some time", so a guy who registered yesterday and spammed 20 posts in various places likely will be eliminated even if picked.

Yep.  Dave doesn't go through the hassle of cleaning up the entry pool, he will just run the wobulator and check whoever comes up - which is what he has done in the past.

The competition thread in the Supporters Lounge mentions patrons and supporters only but no mention of super contributors, some have already entered and I think they should be included.   :-//

My understanding is that if you have access to the "Supporters Lounge" area then you are a Supporter.  Something that can be obtained by Patreon or by contributing a lot on the forum through having a large post count.
